You didn’t expect a Lakers player to take to the basketball court in the heart of San Francisco and not be involved in some sort of controversy, did you? Even if it’s Matt Barnes, who was born in the San Francisco Bay Area (Santa Clara) but played high school ball near Sacramento. News on the street is that Barnes allegedly slapped the coach of an opposing team during an SF Bay Area Pro-Am summer league game at Kezar Pavilion in SF on Monday night. SportsbyBrooks has details:
Since that Monday night game, multiple eyewitnesses of the incident have come forward and informed me of what actually happened between Barnes and Lewis.
I’m told that during a second half timeout, Barnes walked over to the opposing team’s (SF City) bench, which had been mercilessly needling Barnes throughout the game. As words were exchanged, Barnes slapped assistant coach Rick Lewis.
