Joe Flacco get’s 6-year, $120.6M deal with Ravens

Mar 3rd, 2013 by Bilal Ali

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco’s new contract will make him the highest-paid signal caller in the league.

CBS Sports reported Saturday that Flacco will be paid an average of $20.1 million per year in his new six-year deal. He will reportedly make slightly more than the New Orleans Saints’ Drew Brees.

Flacco will make $62 million in the first three years of his contract, $1 million more than Brees.

The deal saves the Ravens in the short term as Flacco would have counted at least $15 million against the salary cap this year if the team slapped a franchise tag on him. Instead, the two sides worked out a contract and he will only account for $7 million against the cap this year.

Flacco’s contract was agreed to on Friday and will reportedly be finalized on Monday, according to several media reports.

Flacco threw three touchdowns to lead the Ravens to a Super Bowl victory over the San Francisco 49ers last month and earned MVP honors. The 28-year-old threw 11 touchdowns and no interceptions in the playoffs.
