Brian Reed, Baltimore Ravens Ed Reed’s brother Laid To Rest

Jan 29th, 2011 by Bilal Ali

Friends and family members of Brian Reed finally have closure. Today his body was laid to rest, three weeks after he jumped into the Mississippi River. WGNO News Reporter Vanessa Bolano has more from St. Rose.

22 days after Brian Reed went missing in the Mississippi River his body was laid to rest. This morning hundreds attended his funeral at Mount Zion Baptist Church in St. Rose to say their goodbyes.

Reed’s cousin, Eddress Lane, remembers, “He was a good guy, quiet, soft spoken, he was humble you know he was well mannered.”

Friend Tyshiaka Eugene says, “We went to school together. We were home people. He was a good person.”

The 29-year-old ran from officers on January 7th and jumped into the Mississippi River; a decision that cost him his life.

On Tuesday his body was recovered ending a three week search.

“I’m glad they did find his body. He was a good person. We are going to miss him a lot,” says Brian’s cousin Ella Jackson.

The church sits across the river about six miles from where Reed’s body was found, but today friends and family aren’t questioning his actions, they’re celebrating his life.

Earlier this week Brian Reed’s brother, Baltimore Ravens Safety Ed Reed, said his brother was suffering from mental issues that may have pushed him over the edge.

“Maybe he was dealing with something and having more pain than we ever know that made him make that decision.”

Now friends and family are just glad they have closure after three weeks of not knowing.

“Everybody is glad, it’s closure, giving us closure for today, so we’re getting that over with.”

Brian Reed leaves behind a 2-year-old son. His brother says he cherished that boy and that he gave him reason to live.
