DISNEY’S ‘PRINCESS’ TAKES BOX OFFICE CROWN: Film hops to $25 million

Dec 14th, 2009 by Bilal Ali

Morgan Freeman, Matt Damon and Sandra Bullock were forced to bow down this weekend for Disney’s first African American princess.

“The Princess and the Frog” which expanded nationwide Friday, earned $25 million to take over the top box office spot from Bullock’s “The Blind Side,” which slipped to No. 2 with 15.5 million.

Clint Eastwood’s Nelson Mandela drama “Invictus,” starring Freeman and Damon, emerged from the scrum in third place with $9.1 million.

“Frog,” the Disney animated musical, stars Anika Noni Rose as the voice of a young woman in 1920s New Orleans who’s turned into a frog by a kiss from an amphibian.
