SEBOKENG, South Africa — A court has postponed resumption of the trial of a former dormitory matron accused of indecently assaulting and abusing six teenagers at Oprah Winfrey’s school for poor South African girls.
Prosecutor Etienne Venter says the trial will continue Oct. 22, 24 and 28 at the Sebokeng magistrates court.
Defendant Tiny Virginia Makopo pleaded innocent to 14 charges of indecent assault, assault and criminal injury at the start of the trial Tuesday. The 28-year-old woman allegedly tried to kiss and fondle the victims and is also accused of kicking and hitting some of them.
Venter said Friday that visit by the court to the school had delayed proceedings. Only one of the victims had completed her testimony, he said.
The $40 million school founded by U.S. media figure Winfrey opened last year.
