George Benson Hoping Princess Diana Songs Become Available

In 1997, after Princess Diana and her boyfriend Dodi Fayed died after a car crash in Paris, smooth jazz guitarist and vocalist George Benson was approached by Fayed’s father, Mohamed Al-Fayed. He wanted Benson, a good friend, to write a song about the couple. Benson actually wrote two, “I Will Keep You In My Heart,” a tribute to Diana, and “Father And Son,” about Mohamed and Dodi.
Now, Benson is hoping that his songs will be released soon, despite a disagreement with a record company that meant the songs were not released. Benson also hopes that Diana’s sons, Princes William and Harry, will finally hear the ballads.
“I love those boys,” Benson told the Daily Express in the U.K., where he was in London preparing for a tour in May. “When I see them I keep on thinking about her personality and what outstanding kids she produced. Very few people can listen to this song without bursting into tears. Everyone has lost someone and can relate to the words. I know in my own heart that, one day, they (the songs) will be heard and more appreciated.”
The Daily Express is making both Benson songs – the one for Diana and the one for Dodi Fayed – available for listening in special videos.
Benson’s latest CD, Songs and Stories, features the smooth jazz hits “Living in High Definition” and “Nuthin’ But a Party.”
