Nov 11th, 2009 by Bilal Ali
smooth jazz keyboardist Brian Culbertson releases his debut DVD/CD project with Live From the Inside. Filmed live at Capitol Records in Hollywood on June 3, the DVD features 17 songs, in addition to documentary-style vignettes in between each song. Among the vignettes’ titles are On the Road, In Chicago Visiting My Old Hangs, In Decatur at My House and Band Room, among others.
The project has many of Culbertson’s best-loved songs, including “Always Remember,” “Back in the Day,” “So Good,” “Hookin’ Up” and “Let’s Get Started.” In addition to the live tracks, Culbertson – the weekday morning host on the Smooth Jazz Network – recorded a new studio song, “Go,” that is his latest hit single.
The who’s-who of musical guests on Live From the Inside includes Ray Parker Jr., Dave Koz, Michael Lington, Eric Marienthal, Eric Darius, Jim Culbertson and Sheldon Reynolds. The band consists of Lenny Castro, Chris Miskel, Lamar Jones, Eddie Miller, Michael Stever, Rob Schaer, Nick Lane, Wayne Bruce and Marqueal Jordan.
Culbertson will be playing songs from Live From the Inside on his annual A Soulful Christmas tour, which this year features smooth jazz saxophonist Michael Lington and begins November 28 in San Diego.
