“E.R.” Actor Arrested on Drug Charges

Oct 22nd, 2009 by Bilal Ali

“E.R.” actor Sam Jones III is under arrest on charges of possessing with the intent to sell more than 10,000 tablets of oxycodone.

Jones, who played a medical student on “E.R.” and was the younger brother of “E.R.” doc Greg Pratt (played by Mekhi Phifer) , was arrested at his Canoga Park home Wednesday morning by DEA agents who say Jones was a “co-conspirator” in a series of drug deals.

According to the federal complaint, the DEA says Jones was the ” Hollywood connection” in a drug ring that illegally purchased and distributed the oxycodone.

Oxycodone is also known by the trade name OxyContin.

Jones, along with Thomas Michael Cataloni, would negotiate with a prospective oxycodone supplier to buy the drugs for a certain price and would arrange to meet with the supplier at a certain time and location, according to the federal indictment. They would meet the supplier, buy the drugs and distribute them throughout the community, the documents allege.

The defendants were caught in a drug sting in which a special federal agent posed as a supplier of oxycodone working undercover. In June, 2008, Jones and Cataloni met the agent at a Burbank coffee shop, negotiated a price and then purchased $75,000 worth of the oxycodone in the parking lot of a Glendale video store.

Jones is charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute oxycodone. He is due in federal court Wednesday afternoon on the charges.

If convicted, Jones faces up to 20 years in federal prison.

Jones is also known for his roles on the television series “Smallville” (he played Clark Kent’s best friend, Pete Ross), “The Practice” and “CSI”. He also appeared in the film “Glory Road”.
