Accused ‘Craigslist Killer’ Stabbed, Suffocated Himself

A fatal stab to major arteries in his neck and leg with a pen, followed by a plastic bag over his head, is how alleged “Craigslist Killer” Philip Markoff took his own life, reports MSNBC, noting that the 24-year-old had been a medical student at Boston University before his incarceration.
Nashua Street Jail officials on Sunday morning found an unresponsive Markoff in his cell. He was pronounced dead by the Massachusetts Suffolk County district attorney’s office at 10:15 a.m.
Markoff was expected to go on trial in March, nearly two years after he allegedly killed Julissa Brisman, 25, a New York masseuse who traveled to Boston after placing an ad for her services on Craigslist. He was also going to be tried for the armed robbery of a Las Vegas woman in Boston. He had pleaded not guilty to both accusations.
Markoff’s attorney, John Salsberg, said Sunday, “I’m shocked and saddened by the news” of his client’s death.
