Queen Latifah Offers Advice to Princess-to-Be Kate Middleton

Queen Latifah has some advice for Kate Middleton from one royal to another: Brace yourself.
“Make sure you have a sanctuary, because everybody in the world is going to be in your business,” Latifah advises Middleton in the new issue of Parade. “[Prince William] happened to be born a prince; you happened to go to college and meet him. You’re two kids who fell in love. I just hope you have a happy life.”
Latifah’s top tip for Middleton, who is set to marry William in April, is simple: “Don’t take anything personally.”
As for her own future, Latifah, 40, wants to be a mom, but when exactly that will happen is up in the air. Asked to picture where she’ll be in 10 years, she says she wants to be “on cruise control, with a couple of kids under my belt.”
But asked when children might come on the scene, she says, “It’s in the Lord’s hands.”
Latifah, who will host the People’s Choice Awards on Jan. 5, also sends some love to her home state of New Jersey.
“There’s something about growing up in New Jersey that prepares you for whatever you might encounter around the world,” she says. “We’re not afraid to go places. I met [Jersey Shore star] Mike ‘The Situation’ because we were both on Jay Leno. He lives maybe 15 minutes from me. He was like, ‘If you ever get a flat tire, call me and I’ll hook you up.’ I love Jersey.”
