Much like the nominations, the Emmy Awards may not have played out exactly as you thought they would.

The night was a celebration of first-time winners, such as “Modern Family’s” Eric Stonestreet, “Breaking Bad’s” Jim Parsons, “Glee’s” Jane Lynch and “Temple Grandin’s” Claire Danes.

“Modern Family” bested “Glee” in the outstanding comedy series category, and “Mad Men” dominated the best drama category over some other favorites such as “Breaking Bad,” although it’s fair to say the AMC show didn’t dominate the evening. Matthew Weiner’s retro program nabbed a total of four Emmys, including awards for outstanding drama series and drama writing.
