Smooth jazz superstar Kenny G releases a brand-new project Tuesday [June 29] entitled Heart and Soul [Concord Music]. This marks the 13th studio album for the Grammy-winning artist, and the follow-up to his 2008 Latin-influenced collection, Rhythm and Romance.

Smooth jazz guitarist Paul Jackson Jr. is already a week into his latest high-profile gig – that of guitarist in The Tonight Show band. Jackson made his debut last week in the band now led by Rickey Minor, who took over from longtime music director Kevin Eubanks.

Carnegie Hall in New York announced today (June 9) that trumpeter Jon Faddis and saxophonist Jimmy Heath will join the all-star celebration honoring the life and music of one of jazz music’s living legends, James Moody. The show is June 23 in Carnegie’s Zankel Hall.

Jazz pianist and composer Hank Jones, whose 70-year career included a stint as Ella Fitzgerald’s pianist and Marilyn Monroe’s accompanist when she sang “Happy Birthday” to President John F. Kennedy, has died, his manager said Monday. He was 91.

Kenny G has completed his next CD, Heart and Soul, which will be released on June 29. The CD has instrumental songs and vocal tracks with Robin Thicke and Babyface. “It’s an R&B sound,” says the smooth jazz saxophonist. “Awesome music.”
