Family members hold vigil for Phylicia Barnes

Apr 28th, 2011 by Bilal Ali

The disappearance and death of Phylicia Barnes touched off an outpouring of concern and sadness. On Thursday family and friends in two states will honor her.

Phylicia’s family members will hold a vigil at the Reisterstown Square Apartments in Northwest Baltimore.  It was the last place she was seen.

The Baltimore candlelight vigil will be held on Thursday from 7pm to 9pm at 6520 Eberle Lane at the Reisterstown Square Apartments.  Family members ask people to bring a purple or white candle to light in Phylicia’s honor.

In Phylicia’s hometown of Monroe, North Carolina, there will be a memorial service on Thursday for the teenager at a local church outside of Charlotte. Students at Union Academy have been wearing purple shirts and ribbons to honor Phylicia.

She disappeared on December 28th while visiting family in Baltimore.  Her body was found in the Susquehanna River near the Conowingo Dam.

Baltimore Police have not made an arrest in this case.
