Baltimore Police investigating five separate shootings in 24 hours

Apr 22nd, 2011 by Bilal Ali

Five men were reported shot, one fatally, in separate attacks within a 24-hour period spanning Thursday night and Friday, according to a Baltimore police spokesman.

The latest shooting occurred about 2 a.m. in the 200 block of W. Fayette St., in the city’s downtown as clubs and bars let out. Police had few details and could not say whether the gunfire was connected to nightlife activities.

Police did say they had a person of interest in custody.

The latest spate of shootings began shortly before 9:30 p.m. Thursday when officers sped to Oakley Avenue and Pimlico Road in Northwest Baltimore. Detective Kevin Brown, the police spokesman, said the officers found a 25-year-old victim with a gunshot wound to his cheek. The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment.

About 6:20 p.m., police responded to the 1300 block of North Patterson Park Ave. in East Baltimore’s Broadway East neighborhood and found a 36-year-old man inside a home with multiple gunshot wounds to his head, body and leg. He was taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.

Four hours earlier, police said a 20-year-old man was shot while sitting on a porch in the 3200 block of Dudley Ave. He had been shot in the upper body, Brown said. Police determined the shooting occurred in the 4000 block of Mannasota Ave. in Northeast Baltimore, he said.

Also, police on Friday identified Keith Cooper, 47, as the man fatally shot Thursday about 9:20 a.m. in a high-rise housing complex for seniors and the disabled near the Inner Harbor.
